[ Saber... This is such cute behaviour. He probably doesn't notice Saber cutely peeking around, looking a little amused when he catches sight of them peacefully eating a rice ball. They're going to have to get used to white people food... ]
Seems like it.
[ Sitting down on the chair his tent has been afforded, running a hand through his hair. ]
Judith is alive, and no one seems to be aware that she died. It's just a matter of me getting back head back where it was two months ago. [ Dusts off cobwebs and gets back into war mode. ] What about you? How do you want me to introduce you to everyone?
at the question though... huh. ][ well, their actual name may be uncommon. how many asians are here. but they don't know about femblem racial diversity or potential lack of it, so they don't voice that concern. ]
Yamato Takeru should be fine. You'd just have to lose the privilege of having special permission to use it.
Saber should be fine. [ HE REALLY DOESN'T WANT TO LOSE HIS PRIVILEGE ] It'll be a cool nickname for you. There are plenty of mercenaries without full names at the camp.
I'm wondering if I should make up a lie about where you're from, or just leave it a mystery... If anyone starts asking you questions, and we start making up lies about a homeland, that could lead to trouble.
It may be simple to just say I was orphaned, so I do not know anything about where I am from originally. I have simply lived in the countryside for most of my life afterwards.
[ you don't have to make up lies about a homeland if you do not know where that homeland is!! ]
Ah, that's a good idea. [ Nods. If kind of sad... but not that unusual around here. ] Perhaps I saw you hunting a boar while flying one day and I was taken aback by your skill... Self-taught in the sword and in magic.
[ HE WASN'T FLUSTERED... Or was he. I can't even remember. It is still strange to hear his birth name, even more so now that he's back in Fódlan, but not unpleasant. ]
That's right. Judith's the only one that knows I'm from Almyra. [ ... ] Well, and Shez. I'll introduce you to everyone soon.
[ Though... He looks thoughtful, leaning back in his chair. ]
Unless maybe you want the opportunity to travel a little first? You could follow Yves and Adolphe, and help them find a home. [ Scratching his cheek. ] You know, since escaping eight weeks of murder and dying to go straight into a war is kind of a terrible deal.
they are kind of amused... sorry the idea of someone telling them they don't have to fight is funny to them. ]
Do not worry. No one is my Master here, so if I really didn't want to do something, I just wouldn't.
[ they do NOT like being bossed around. their secret is that when they were asked who they would choose as a master, they still gave names, but they would never actually ask them to because they aren't crazy and they like their independence. the downside of having weakened power is a pain in the ass but they don't think they're in a situation where that will really matter; it's not like they're fighting other servants here. ]
[ LOOK it's never too late to turn over a new leaf. Sometimes you want your life to be different from the way it always has been.
He blinks slowly. ]
Right. Your Master. [ ... ] I remember that coming up a couple times, but I don't think I ever actually got what it means.
[ He probably overheard someone asking Saber during party games, but it never came up directly so he actually doesn't know the Master and Servant dynamic. ]
[ me opening this to keep myself busy on an hour train ride to see it's explaining fate/ mechanics
but saber mostly avoided explaining this for the majority of the game so it's not a surprise that it's confusing. ]
Ah, well... the simplest way to explain the Servant and Master dynamic is that I am someone who had died, and I was granted a new life as a Heroic Spirit, which is also known as a Servant. While I was already very powerful as a normal human, being a Servant grants me even more power. Typically, a person can contract a Servant and become their Master. Servants fight for their Masters, typically against other partnerships.
However, Rogue Servants can also exist... and that means you don't have a Master. But Rogues tend to be weaker because they're not being fueled by a contract. Right now I am a Rogue, as my contract with my previous Master no longer exists.
[ Life in Fódlan is fairly different from his life in heaven in nearly every way except for the constant threat of death. And one of the ways it's most different is how he's treated by the people around him. Not just in terms of respect and status, but also friendliness and affection.
Claude had become more open during his time in heaven too, but it's still a little strange to see traces of that warmth and closeness now back in Fódlan.
All that to say, Saber catches him off guard—his going wide a moment before turning a little embarrassed. ]
Right, well. You're going to be learning a lot whether you like it or not soon enough.
[ Clearing his throat, he stands back up. ]
Why don't I show you around then? Unless you want a break a little while longer.
[ saber is such an obnoxious tourist they just immediately perk up at the suggestion of a tour. at the very least, they are easy to entertain.
so they will nod their head. it's probably best to get this out of the way earlier than later, since they assume claude will have to head back out again and do his real job. even if they were granted wiggle room with timeline shenanigans with leaving heaven, two months is a long time to be away from things from a personal perspective. ]
I do prefer to be on the move. I'll just follow your lead.
[ Oh no, I remember from the game that Saber loves to explore new places 🥺
But that works. ]
Let's get going then.
[ Out the tent they go! There will probably be some questioning glances from people wondering where this stranger with Claude suddenly appeared from, but they just assume that he has it handled. No one really has the gumption to just walk up to the king and ask, and the Deer are busy or something.
So Claude will show Saber around the camp. There are a few merchants that have set up shop, the kitchen and eating area, and the med tents. There's also an impromptu training grounds where soldiers are running drills, and then he'll finish the tour at the stables where there are a few wyverns sunning themselves. ]
We won't be staying here long. Probably by tomorrow we'll resume out trip to the coast, and make the rest of our journey by water.

Ah, Khalid, you are so kind... I am blushing.
[ they are not.

It is still Claude in front of others, correct?

It's fine. I wouldn't actually be able to relax, knowing all of this is going on here.
[ they have no idea how yves and adolphe can actually but that must be their need to be horny dominating everything i guess ]
no subject
You wouldn't, huh? [ He chews on his lip briefly, brows furrowing. ] It's not causing too much stress, is it?

[ a pause. ]
In any case, that was my situation before coming here.

Well, it's true that you have no such shackles here... But I would like to understand how we'll be working together now that we're back in this war.
[ what are we ]
Like... are you going to follow my lead as a commanding officer?
no subject
Well, it is your war, and I wouldn't do anything that would get in your way... I do not know the politics here yet.
[ they would NOT just go and try to murder dimitri, despite the memes. ]
So, yes. Please direct me as you would your soldiers. [ a pause. ] But we are friends in private.
no subject
He just scratches his cheek. ]
Of course, I'm not worried about treating you as a friend. I'm more worried about treating you as one of my soldiers. It just feels a little strange.
[ Like.
Showing a friend your worksona...... ]

... I suppose that makes sense. Then, I am your friend who is helping out. Okay?

He lifts a brow, amused. ]
