there are few times where elysium has genuinely regretted his condition, but he feels it now more than ever. ]

Why would it be your fault? Shouldn't I know my own health best?

[ people are going to take one look at him and say he needs to be wheeled to rhodes. ]

[ he is obviously not happy with this. once again, he will not want to participate in a suicide pact that gets activated because some random guy guy a stab in. he will be overcome with time travel urges and then blow up. ]

[ but he gives up and will just gesture. ]

[ are we sure it's a random guy…? either way, truly funny how they're both coping with this. maybe it's the years he'd spent alone and apart—side-questing is how they guarantee things getting in their way. ]

Not being forgiven isn't the worst thing. Does this mean you'll chase me into the next life or into hell?

[ he'll start to tug thorns along the perimeter though, like this isn't an absolutely insane thing to say. ]

he could point out that depending on how bad elysium's condition gets, they might be forced to hit that roadblock at some point. but it's probably easier to live in the moment than think about something that might happen. ]

[ he could be dying next week. he'd tell thorns that life and death wouldn't be able to keep them from having their wedding and honeymoon. but it's clear thorns doesn't think the same way, so he just tucks him closer to him and kisses him on the spot. ]

[ it just seems very easy for the person who would go out first to say that.

but thorns is aware of his own selfishness, so he will push the ugly thoughts away. arguing against elysium over this will likely lead to him doing something drastic, and that's the last thing thorns wants. ]

[ in another universe, elysium is ivan levels of haunting thorns' narrative… the way this could've been that universe if thorns didn't agree to their stupid suicide pact. it could still be that universe, actually.

but he kisses thorns again. needy, needy. well, up until docybara comes up from behind them and headbutts them gently. ]

[ elysium just looks at thorns expectantly… he is ignoring this unruly child. ]

[ thorns… :( he sticks obnoxiously close to his side. no moping, full annoying. ]

That looks like a barn up ahead?

[ docybara recognizes barns from his stay at the farm... he thinks he is just about to get access to lots of food and not left behind again...

thorns ignores the first thing elysium said though. ]

[ elysium's life is cyclical in the way he keeps wondering why it is so hard. he looks at thorns in disbelief, then proceeds to just bite his ear. die.

anyway.

this is supposed to be a casual stop in town for them, right? it'd be great if that were the case, but no. they approach and it becomes more and more evident that an entire party's going on: authorities seem to be crowded on the farmhouse's front porch, an older woman on the brink of a breakdown as she explains how both her son and husband have been missing for days.

he gives a sidelong glance at thorns. they really don't have many options here, do they. and they're about to have even less when docybara sneezes and gives their positioning away. ]

[ OKAY.

they all turn to look at them. thorns slowly raises a hand in a wave and lowers it. ]

... We came at a bad time.

[transmit]

[ does thorns still love docybara… ]

We're travellers who were hoping to make a stop in town. Looks like you guys got yourself into a sticky situation…? Was there anything we can help with?

[ they look amongst each other as if they're deciding on just this, and, well.

they ask if they'd seen anything on the road here… it seems like disappearances have been happening regularly for the past month. oh boy. ]

[ okay... well.

there's a pause, and he nods. ]

We actually were attacked on the way here by some bandits. It looks like they were camping and waiting for people to pass by. There was also nearby debris, but we didn't get to investigate since I was focused on getting him to a doctor.

[ he gestures at elysium to show off where a wrapped injury is visible.

it is not the whole truth, but thorns doesn't really want to admit how much they investigated because that might get a few raised eyebrows and that may lead to having to explain their connection to rhodes. ]

[ exposing right away that he's infected. okay. well, practically right away after someone manages to do a once-over. elysium just fixes his sleeve over his wrist and clears his throat. ]

If we cooperate with the investigation, will you cover our fees? We're combatants. I don't need to see a doctor for anything urgent.

[ die, thorns. ]

[ he wants to glare at him so bad but he manages not to.

but the group agrees and asks for them to take them to where they were attacked right away. this is killing thorns because they literally just got here. ]

Can our burdenbeast stay in the barn while we take you there? He's tired.

[ plus there's other animals there to distract him... thorns wants elysium to stay too because he's also tired. mentally strangles him. ]

[ they may be more reluctant to work with them if they find out about elysium's oripathy… that's just the nature of the beast when you're not officially under rhodes island's care or a national. someone has to think about these things.

but he just smiles and pretends thorns isn't plotting his murder. this is such a different vibe from what they'd started off with back in the village. ]

And he's well-trained. If he gives you trouble, there are easy ways to get him to settle down. [ nudges thorns. ] Go for it.

[ none of the people look particularly convinced, but they are desperate since they happen to be short-staffed. the authorities ask if they can sit down inside to get a more thorough report on what the two have seen and to come up with a battleplan. this can only go well. ]

[oversea]

[ the hilarity of being like, 'we need to stop getting involved in things' and immediately getting involved in things.

but thorns will start from the beginning, telling them what village they started from–it gives them more credibility if any of these people ask the villagers about them, since they were well liked there. but it also just gives a better idea of the path they took and around where the bandits (or whoever they are) may be situated. ]

... We only ran into two of them, but we can probably assume there's more. So stay on guard.

[ he says we but it was elysium!!!! ]
