[ the house almost feels like a dream at this point.
right after leaving, he couldn't think too much about it, really. seconds after going through his portal, he felt the greatest loss he ever had, and then immediately sprung into making a series of bad decisions that very nearly cost not only his life, but his entire existence. it worked out in the end, of course. kazuki and enta were there, so it worked out.
but toi still ended up being escorted to a juvenile facility; he's too young to go to prison, which he supposes is something he should be thankful for. but the only real reminder that the house was real during this process is master blue's message to him, that more or less asks if he's still alive, which toi had asked him to send. when he enters the juvenile center, he leaves the messaging device behind though. everyone can deal with his lack of responses, it's fine.
it's been about a year since he's been behind bars, and everything is... normal. every day he goes through the same routine, over and over, and he's gotten as used to it as someone can be. and today is definitely going to be another normal, boring day. right. ]
[ for all that he said he would visit, it doesn't happen.
well, that's not his fault, is it? toi never picks up when zenitsu calls for him via pendant! what's up with that? the times he goes unanswered leaves him puzzled, then apprehensive, and finally a little hurt. can distance hurt their friendship that much?
once things calm down on his own end a year later, zenitsu procures the pendant he tucked away for a certain period of time to try again. when no answer comes, his anxiety morphs into irritation after so many months of no contact. what's this guy's problem? if toi doesn't want to talk to him, at least say it to his face (please don't).
his impatience gets the better of him. he rummages through his bag for a single orb, which he uses to summon a portal to toi's side. ]
To—ouch!
[ he just didn't expect the portal to spit him right out at a wall. so there he goes, walking face-first into the wall of toi's cell with a shout. ]
like, a lot, to the point where he sometimes wonders if he can get any more surprised than he already has in life. it is, after all, kind of difficult to top getting pooped out of a kappa anus on the scale of 'what the fuck is happening'
but that somehow still doesn't make seeing zenitsu pop in out of nowhere and slamming into a wall any less weird or surprising. toi just stares for a few seconds, blinks a few times to make sure he isn't seeing things, and then very quickly runs to him to cover his mouth ]
[ nothing zenitsu sees will ever compare to toi's experiences. nothing.
as far as hearing goes, he's objectively very good at it. he hears things nobody would think he's heard and remembers them to act on later. no one can say that he's deaf. listening, however, is another story entirely.
after an entire year of radio silence, this guy has the nerve to tell him to shut up. no way! he struggles against the hand, bringing his own up to wrestle toi away—only to freeze when he notices the bars next to them. zenitsu's eyes bulge. ]
[ it's not that he didn't expect visits. people were mostly deterred by the fact that he never responded to anything, but he knew there was a chance someone might try to come anyway.
except, even though he knew this might happen, he still has to wonder for a moment if he's imagining things. ]

You're going to get me in trouble.

far from a believer in silence, zenitsu tears himself away, spluttering: ]
Why? What did you do? Is this where you've been for an entire year? I didn't hear anything about this!

[ since zenitsu broke out of his grasp, toi will just walk over to make sure no guards are in the hallway. it's fine. ]
Did you get louder?
slides back in
he's also not going anywhere near those bars. who knows what he'll see if he does? but he finally has the decency to whisper (loudly). ]
You're not gonna be here forever, are you?

[ even... tually... ]
I'm underage, so this isn't real prison.

Then what do you call this?
